About our kits
What's included in a Pokeya kit?
Everything you need to make your character from start to finish: fine wool in every color your character needs, the felting tools, and step-by-step video tutorials. No extra supplies required.
Do I need any experience with needle felting?
Not at all! Our kits are designed for complete beginners. The video tutorials walk you through every step, from shaping the body to adding the tiniest details.
How long does it take to finish a character?
It varies from person to person. Most makers finish their character over 2-4 hours. Some choose to keep working at it and perfecting it. There's no rush, so take breaks whenever you like and enjoy the process.
Where do I find the video tutorials?
Every kit comes with access to a dedicated video tutorial page for your character here on our site. Just follow the instructions included in your kit. If you have trouble accessing your tutorial, email us at help@thepokeya.com and we'll help you out.
Do I have to make my character exactly the same as yours?
Of course not! You are free to follow the instructions, or deviate as you choose!
Why does Digby have one short ear?
Digby is based on our co-founders real life Corgi, who got in a bit of a tussle and lost the tip of his left ear. While our version of Digby has a short ear, it is up to you if you choose to do the same with your creation!
Do Pokeya kits make good gifts?
Absolutely! A kit is a fun, hands-on gift for crafters, animal lovers, and anyone looking for a relaxing new hobby.
Needle felting basics
What is needle felting?
Needle felting is a craft where you repeatedly poke loose wool with a special barbed needle. Each poke tangles the wool fibers together, so the wool slowly firms up and holds the shape you sculpt. It's surprisingly calming. Stab your stresses away!
How do I get starting with needle felting?
In a nut shell, you layer the wool, and poke the fluffy areas with the felting needle. Make sure the needle comes out the same direction it goes in, do not bend or wiggle the needle as it can snap. The more pokes the firmer your work becomes. See QR code in your Pokeya kit for full end to end videos.
What happens if I break a needle?
Needles can snap if they're bent or twisted while poking, so try to poke straight in and out. We provide extra needles in case on breaks. If a needle breaks, gently remove the sharp tip and wrap it and the rest of the needle in a paper towel before disposing. If the needle tip is lodged in your work, remove it with tweezers or a pair of pliers.
Safety & care
Is needle felting safe for kids?
Felting needles are very sharp, so our kits are best suited for teens and adults. For those who are extra accident prone, there are also leather finger gloves and thimbles you can buy on Amazon or at your favorite craft store. These are not included in the kits.
How do I avoid poking myself?
Work on a felting pad or other protected surface, keep your fingers away from where the needle is going, and go slowly, especially when working on small details. Poke straight up and down, and store needles safely when you're not using them. For those who are extra accident prone, there are also leather finger gloves and thimbles you can buy on Amazon or at your favorite craft store. These are not included in the kits.
